Since 1951, adult volunteers have provided meaningful service to East Texas Medical Center Tyler through the ETMC Auxiliary. The Auxiliary serves the hospital and additional ETMC areas in numerous ways:
Extending ETMC's not-for-profit mission of care and focus on excellent guest relations
Serving as ambassadors by representing the community within the hospital and representing ETMC within the community
Performing tasks that lighten the load of the professional staff members, thereby allowing them to concentrate on the work they are trained to do
Raising funds through the ETMC Gift Shop, special fundraising projects, membership dues, memorial and honorary gifts, and other means. These charitable gifts help further ETMC's services, technology and outreach.
The Auxiliary functions as the governing body for the volunteers. The group meets on a quarterly schedule, usually on a Wednesday at 11 a.m. These meetings are designed to provide information on volunteerism, education on ETMC and medical topics, and a time of social interaction for the volunteers. In addition, the annual awards luncheon in the spring provides a time of formal recognition and appreciation for the good work of the Auxiliary.
